G29 Z4 Strut Braces Installation Instructions
We recommend you read the instructions fully before you start, and reach out to sales@strong-strut.com with any questions or trouble you encounter during the install, we are here to help.
Tools Required
E16 External Torx socket
Torque wrench strongly recommended
NOTE: This procedure does not change suspension alignment. It should always be performed on flat, level ground with the car fully sitting on the tires. BMW procedures say not to move the car without these braces installed.
- Remove all 4 E16 bolts. These are long bolts (45mm) and come with factory thread locker, so they will require effort to remove. We do not recommend using an impact wrench for this, as they are steel bolts in aluminum receivers. Just use a simple socket wrench. These bolts will be re-used.
- Remove old aluminum tube braces. Place new Strong Strut braces in their location, and hand-start all 4 bolts. Rotate around all 4 locations, running the bolts in until they are touching the braces (not even snug, just finger-tight).
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all 4 bolts to 40 ft-lbs. These are torque to yield bolts, and the factory specs is 40 ft-lbs + an additional 90º of rotation. Since these bolts will already have been stretched on their initial install, we do not recommend the additional 90º. Technically, these bolts should be replaced after each use, however we have seen no ill effects from re-using them across tens of thousands of miles of driving.
- OPTIONAL: If you purchased the black bolt caps, press those on to each of the four bolt heads now.
